We returned to overnight before flying home at the end of our holiday. We were given the same room as two weeks previously (which I reviewed so little more to add). As we were in the room longer we wondered if we could get a second fob for the electricity in the connecting room - the room with all the convenient plug sockets. We now realised they have removed the power facility in that side - so no working lights/sockets. So if you are a party of more than 2 given room 109 you should note this. And that you’ll be sharing one socket in the main room between you. And not by the bed. And anyone needing the bathroom in the night will be switching on the lights on your side. Fortunately we carried an adapter with 4 usb/plug so made it work.

Hotel Cecil was an old fashioned hotel which one could call retro or shabby depending on your point of view. Personally I really liked the vibe that made me think I was stepping into a space which hadnt changed much in decades and reminded me of earlier trips to Europe. It had a working lift which even though a quirky cage, did the job. The location is unbeatable - about 100metres from Monastriki station which is on the train line from the airport and within walking distance of most main sights. Staff were helpful, onsite 24 hrs a day and more than willing to give advice and any help required. Beds comfortable and although breakfast not gourmet, it was more than adequate.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Cecil Hotel, and I was pleasantly surprised by how wonderful my experience was. The location is unbeatable, situated right in the heart of the city, making it incredibly convenient to explore all the major attractions. The staff were exceptionally friendly and went out of their way to make my stay comfortable and enjoyable. The highlight, however, was the stunning views from the rooftop terrace. It provided a perfect spot to relax and take in the breathtaking cityscape. I highly recommend Cecil Hotel for anyone looking for a memorable and delightful stay.

The price-value ratio is very good, just be mindful of the noise level on the side of the road. The place is old but clean and atmospheric, and the rooms functional for a few nights' stay. AC works ok. Service was friendly and breakfast simple but quite sufficient and timely. Location is excellent in terms of shopping, restaurants and sightseeing. The street Cecil is on felt safe and 24 hr reception. You can decide whether you leave your key there or not while out. Did not use or ask about safes for valuables.

Athens may be filled with soulless Airbnb rentals, each furnished with the same generic IKEA pieces—but Hotel Cecil is a refreshing exception. Like the city itself, Hotel Cecil isn't perfect, but its abundant charm and old-world character easily overshadow any minor imperfections. The prime location, the vintage Otis elevator, and functional WiFi are just added perks. Will be on the top of my list for my next visit to the city.
